FOOT BRIDGE and SAW MILL
GRIINKE COVERED FOOT BRIDGE |
Below the dam and spanning the tail race (stream) that exits the mill is a unique covered foot bridge. It was constructed by Friends of Beckman Mill and is in memory of Herman and Augusta Griinke. Herman was a partner in the mill with August Beckmann from 1892-1908. The bridge is a very popular addition to Beckman Mill Park and is used occasionally as a venue for weddings, family celebrations, picnics, school tour groups, etc. For more information, call 608 751-1551 or e-mail: beckmanmill@yahoo.com

SAW MILL DISPLAY |
|
In the southeast corner of the park a short distance from the foot bridge is a vintage saw mill display. It was designed and built by the FBM volunteer work crew to show how logs were cut into beams, planks and other wooden construction materials. It is a static display to be used as an educational tool as opposed to an operational unit. In actual practice, such a mill would have its circular saw blade turned either by a steam or other type of engine. The power would be transmitted via a long, flat belt.
